JOB SUMMARY:

Jefferson County is seeking a well-qualified, motivated Water Reclamation Facility Shop Supervisor to plan, assign, and review the work of maintenance staff servicing pump stations. Responsibilities include overseeing the computerized maintenance management system to ensure maintenance activities are completed and documented properly, developing and delivering safety training, and monitoring shop inventory and budget. The Shop Supervisor works closely with the Sewer Maintenance Superintendent and WRF Maintenance Manager to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize disruptions to daily operations. Work is performed throughout Jefferson County’s sanitary sewer collection system.

$62,920 - $97,593

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Work experience in heavy industrial mechanical field repairing and maintaining equipment such as pumps, blowers, motors, gear boxes, engines.
  • Work experience operating industrial machine shop equipment such as lathes, drill presses, milling machines, cut-off saws, hydraulic presses, grinders, cutting and welding equipment, etc. to fabricate or repair machine parts.
  • Work experience reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and specification manuals.
  • Work experience using email software, word processing/spreadsheet software, and work order tracking systems.
  • Work experience following and documenting safety policies and procedures within an industrial setting.


TARGETED QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Jefferson County. These qualifications may be considered by a hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.

  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems associated with completing work orders (e.g., Cityworks).
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical problems in pump station control panels and level control systems (e.g., repairing large pumps or generators).
  • Experience supervising or leading a team in a heavy industrial/mechanical environment.

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Assists with budgetary functions by monitoring departmental expenditures and providing recommendations to assist in the development and administration of departmental budgets.

  • Assists with the management of inventory (i.e., supplies and equipment) in order to maintain proper inventory levels necessary to meet the operational needs of the maintenance department.

  • Oversees, directs and participates in the fabrication of machinery parts such as pump shafts, pistons, and other equipment parts by using lathe, milling machines, and welding equipment.

  • Directs day to day maintenance operations to ensure the performance of general and preventative maintenance of Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) equipment and ensure proper and safe plant operations.

  • Produces reports and other types of written correspondence to document departmental activities, communicate information, and provide required information to regulatory agencies.

  • Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Job is primarily sedentary, but may also require occasional moderate physical exertion required for lifting, carrying, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 75 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in both an office setting, and out in the field around WRF equipment and machinery. Work involves the use of standard office equipment, and computer software (maintenance tracking systems, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.), and may also involve the use of various hand and power tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, grinders, saws etc. Job may require exposure to biological and/or chemical hazards, including raw sewage, and may require exposure to airborne contaminants (e.g., dust, odors, smoke, toxic fumes). Job may also require working with and around potentially hazardous equipment and machinery.
