JOB SUMMARY:

Jefferson County Roads & Transportation is seeking a well-qualified Senior Construction Supervisor. Senior Construction Supervisors perform work that involves planning, assigning, coordinating, and reviewing the work of 20-35 subordinate workers engaged in major construction involving new road construction, reconstruction of roads and road rights-of-way, resurfacing, culverts, bridges, sidewalks, stormwater drainage, and other public works construction projects assuring the proper and timely completion of all assigned projects. An employee in this classification exercises independent discretion in carrying out assignments, however, they may coordinate with multiple supervisors on major projects when warranted. Their work is reviewed through daily work reports and verbal discussions with superintendents and inspectors. Senior Construction Supervisors' performance is reviewed through performance appraisals for adherence to federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures.

$55,265 - $85,737

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position. Minimum qualifications are subject to change:

  • Class A CDL

  • Experience supervising crews performing various types of construction and maintenance, such as storm sewer, street paving, road, park, sidewalk and right-of-way, and creek/ditch.

  • Experience in the use of materials and methods involved in at least one of the following: heavy road construction and maintenance, such as, roadway paving, repair and installation of culverts and storm sewer pipes, repair and installation of storm sewer inlet/manhole covers, bridge maintenance and construction, removal of non-native sediments from creeks, installation of commercial grade fencing and gates, and sidewalk/curb construction and maintenance.

  • Experience reading and interpreting construction plans/blueprints, for example, purpose of road construction or paving, construction of medians, handicap ramps, sidewalks, storm sewer pipe installation, or grading sites for parks or building sites.

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Performs a number of administrative tasks including handling citizen complaints, completing reports, budgetary oversight, attending meetings, and maintaining inventory in order to ensure the department is able to function as intended in order to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines.

  • Prepares for construction projects by determining the resources needed to complete tasks, ordering the appropriate materials, and coordinating work with others to ensure projects are not delayed due to lack of resources

  • Coordinates and oversees field work related to the planning, preparing, and execution of construction and maintenance projects (e.g., roads, bridges, culverts, curbs, sidewalks, storm drains, catch basins, demolition etc.) by relying on industry best practices in order to complete work.

  • Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Job involves moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, balancing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Job may involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed at outdoor worksites such as roadways and construction sites. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc. Work may also involve the use of various hand tools such as hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. May be exposed to weather conditions, such as extreme hot or cold temperatures, or other potentially hazardous conditions such as near roadway traffic, etc.
