Jefferson County is seeking well-qualified, motivated Sewer Line Service Inspectors to conduct sewer service inspections of sanitary sewer lines and equipment to identify necessary maintenance/repairs and to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances. Employees in this job class interact with a variety of audiences to answer questions, provide information regarding regulations and to document compliance with regulations. They are responsible for producing detailed written reports and documentation of all inspection activities and results. Work is performed under general supervision from a Sewer Service Supervisor in accordance with local, state, and federal laws, codes and ordinances.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Driver's license.
Experience providing customer service (e.g., enforcing/explaining policies and procedures, responding to complaints).
Sewer-related work experience (e.g., plumbing installation, sewer line installation, sewer line maintenance, sewer line cleaning, sewer line video).
TARGETED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Jefferson County. These qualifications may be considered by a hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
Coursework or a certification in safety and/or construction management.
Possession of a Journeyman Plumber’s license or higher.
Experience as a team lead in a construction environment (e.g., infrastructure, utilities, buildings).
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Provides service to internal and/or external customers.
Documents various inspection activities by filing paperwork, completing forms/checklists, and entering information into computer database for record-keeping purposes.
Prepares for inspections by scheduling visits, reviewing existing documentation, mapping locations, planning routes, researching codes, and reviewing ordinances in order to maintain efficient operations.
Conducts sewer line impact inspections by taking measurements, investigating obstructions, examining materials, and performing tests in order to verify connections and ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.
Conducts various tests (e.g., dye test, water level observation, leak test, wooden ball test) in order to check for the presence of leaks/obstructions and determine if buildings/residences are appropriately connected to sewer systems.
Determines total number of plumbing fixtures in residential/commercial properties in order to make calculations regarding sewer line impact.
Examines private wastewater flow meters after installation to ensure compliance with sewer code regulations.
Inspects plumbing materials used (e.g., pipes, valves, tubing, pumps) to ensure that they are compliant with sewer code regulations (and sufficient to withstand loading/flow conditions).
Conducts sewer main line maintenance inspections by inspecting manholes, reviewing photographic/video evidence, and examining water levels in order to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job involves moderate physical exertion for sustained periods of physical activity such as walking or standing, and at times may requiring climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in external field environments. Work may involve the use of hand and power tools such as plyers, screw drivers, wrenches, and testing meters. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions, bio-hazard materials, and dangerous conditions such as working around traffic and construction environments.EEO STATEMENT:
