JOB SUMMARY:

Jefferson County is seeking well qualified Electrician Supervisors for its Roads & Transportation department. Electrician Supervisors plan, direct, and oversee the daily operations of an electrical shop. They are responsible for the maintenance and inventory of electrical supplies, preparing for each job, determining the personnel necessary to complete tasks, and estimating operation costs of a jurisdiction’s paint shop. Electrician Supervisors plan, assign, review, and evaluate the work performance of journeyman electricians engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems. Electrician Supervisors plan and carry out their assignments, resolve most of the conflicts that arise, coordinate the work with others, and interpret policy on their own initiative in terms of established objectives. Work assignments are received through work orders, meeting, blueprints, electrical diagrams, and orally. Work is subjected to inspection by a supervisor and an inspector from the local jurisdiction during construction and upon completion. The employee keeps the supervisor informed on the progress of assigned tasks.

$67,163 - $104,208

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:

  • Driver's License.    

  • Possession of an Electrical Contractor License from the Alabama Electrical Contractors Board.

  • Experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial  (e.g., work with motor drive units, variable frequency drive, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), medium and high voltage switch gear) and commercial (e.g., generators, emergency power systems, transformers) electrical systems following all codes and safety standards to include: troubleshooting systems, following blueprints, and permitting projects.


TARGETED QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by the Jefferson County Roads & Transportation department. These qualifications may be considered when we review applications and invite candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.

  • Work experience adhering to MUTCD in the maintenance and installation of traffic signals.

  • Work experience working with signalized traffic control devices and systems to include prior experience using electrical components of cabinet wiring, and the construction, maintenance, or design of traffic signals.

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Commercial Electrical Maintenance and Repairs:  Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains light and heavy commercial-grade electrical fixtures, systems, and associated equipment or appliances.

  • Industrial Electrical Maintenance and Repairs:  Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains industrial controls and associated equipment including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motor control centers (MCCs), and other industrial electrical and/or electronic control systems.

  • Electrical Installation:  Installs electrical systems, fixtures, and/or associated equipment or appliances in new or existing facilities.

  • Electrical Prep and Support Work:  Performs general support duties in preparation for maintenance, repairs, and installations.

  • Electrical Shop Operations and Project Management:  Manages daily operations and projects of an electrical shop and/or department

  • Procures and/or manages inventory (i.e., supplies and equipment) to ensure the products and services are available to meet the operational needs of each department.

  • Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Job involves physical exertion required for sustained periods of moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, and climbing. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed both within employer-owned facilities such as workshops and in field locations such as external places of business or construction worksites. Work involves the use of various hand tools such as plyers and screwdrivers and electrical measuring equipment such as a multimeter. Work requires exposure to live low, medium, and high voltage distribution systems. May be exposed to weather conditions such as extreme hot or cold temperatures.
