The City of Birmingham is seeking to hire a Court Coordinator to be responsible for the management of clerical and court support staff involved in courtroom operations, court records maintenance, and court collections. Employees in this job class are expected to plan, organize, and review the work of subordinate staff. Court Coordinators are also responsible for communicating information related to court activities and processing judicial decisions. Employees in this job class prepare and maintain legal documents and perform legal research. In addition, Court Coordinators are tasked with updating department policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and policies. Court Coordinators directly supervise professional clerical and court support staff and are responsible for reviewing work, conducting performance appraisals, and making disciplinary recommendations.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Certification of Magistrate by the Alabama Administrative Office of Courts (AOC).
A current NCIC Certification.
Supervisory experience including planning and delegating work to, and reviewing the work of subordinates.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Merit System agencies. These qualifications may be considered by a hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely related field.
Experience in a courtroom setting.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Performs Magistrate duties by communicating information related to court activities and making and processing judicial decisions to provide a review of complaints of criminal conduct brought by law enforcement or the general public.
Manages offsite (e.g., library) or virtual court (e.g., via Webex or Incode) in order to coordinate and organize the court’s operations so that those actions may contribute to the court achieving its goals.
Serves as a liaison to various stakeholders (e.g., employees, governmental agencies, the general public) by conducting research, attending meetings, and communicating regarding department-related activity and information in order to address service requests.
Performs various administrative activities by creating, processing, and updating files (e.g., reports), maintaining physical and/or electronic documents related to court activities (e.g., CRO / MIDAS, Tyler / Incode software database), verifying and/or editing existing and/or incoming data and transposing the information into the appropriate documentation, and tracking information using various forms and computer systems in order to ensure the accuracy of the content entered and to meet the needs of the department or municipality making the request.
Manages departmental accounts receivable by generating and processing invoices and payments to direct, collect, and track payments and amounts owed.
Conducts law research in order by retrieving, reviewing, and validating information in order to determine the accuracy of the request before the information/data is entered into the database.
Monitors court activities for compliance by reviewing, monitoring and administering all state and federal laws and regulations applicable to the functions and administration of the Probate Court to ensure activities are being carried out in accordance with established laws and regulations.
Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, and providing feedback and/or training.
Provides customer service to internal and/or external customers.
Engages in activities designed to ensure professional development, awareness of developments in the field, and knowledge of relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and/or guidelines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job is primarily sedentary involving sitting for long periods of time, but may involve occasional walking or standing for brief periods. Job involves physical exertion required for sustained periods of light physical activity such as walking or standing. May involve occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted almost exclusively indoors in an office setting. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc. Job may require working overtime (e.g., in the morning, during lunch, or after normal working hours).
