JOB SUMMARY:

The Jefferson County Department of Health is seeking a Senior Security Officer. This position is responsible for planning, overseeing, and coordinating the work of Security Officers who provide general security services for the agency facilities. The Senior Security Officer performs a range of supervisory duties, including approving leave requests, training staff on policies and procedures, assigning work, and conducting performance evaluations. In addition, this role carries administrative responsibilities such as preparing daily activity reports, maintaining records and files, organizing payroll documentation, and assisting with the development and implementation of policies and procedures for security personnel.

Health Department $23.40 - $36.31

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:


Option A:

  • Driver's license.

  • Ability to legally carry a firearm.

  • Experience working as a Security Officer in the Personnel Board of Jefferson County Merit System.

Option B:

  • Driver's license.

  • Ability to legally carry a firearm.

  • Experience working as a Security Officer/Law Enforcement Officer with experience supervising other employees.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by the Health Department. These qualifications may be considered by a hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.

  • Experience using a computer and word processing software to write documents (e.g., memos, reports, schedules).

  • Experience using a computer to send written communications via email.

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Performs and oversees the administrative duties (e.g., maintains policies and procedures, budget management, meetings, payroll, and time management) of the division to ensure that department and team are functioning in the most efficient manner possible.

  • Provides customer service, internally and/or externally, via phone, email or face to face interaction.

  • Contacts the appropriate emergency assistance personnel or supervisor to report suspicious or dangerous situations, safety hazards, violations of rules, unauthorized personnel, emergencies, etc.

  • Opens and/or closes building by unlocking/locking doors, inspecting entrances and exits, and monitoring/setting alarms to ensure the safety of the building.

  • Assists in maintaining the facility by inspecting the buildings and grounds for damage (e.g., signs of intrusion, unauthorized personnel, maintenance problems, temperature variations, flat tires, alarm alerts, etc.) to enforce security and ensure that rules and regulations are consistently followed.

  • Screens employees and visitors by inspecting all people entering the facility to ensure the security of the building and all of its occupants.

  • Engages in activities designed to ensure professional development, awareness of developments in the field, and knowledge of relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and/or guidelines.

  • Maintains security of the premises and safety of individuals within and around premises through patrol, intervention, and performing security duties.

  • Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Job involves physical exertion required for sustained periods of light physical activity such as walking or standing. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Job may require applying self-defense and restraint tactics to defend oneself from physical attack.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed primarily in and around employer-owned facilities such as office buildings, warehouses, public works facilities, etc. Work involves the use of standard office equipment, as well as the use of equipment typically used in security operations. May be required to occasionally deal with physically aggressive or violent individuals, and may be exposed to potential and real physical violence. Employees may also be required to work nights and weekends.
