The City of Birmingham is seeking to hire an Inventory Manager to be responsible for directing and monitoring the operations of an inventory management system to ensure the availability of supplies, materials, and equipment. They procure inventory by preparing, issuing, evaluating, and recommending awards for goods and services. The employee in this job class assists in developing and monitoring the department budget, and implements methods to reduce or prevent excessive procurement costs. The Inventory Manager will also complete procurement- and inventory-related administrative tasks such as preparing reports, reviewing legal documents, and answering questions. Incumbents supervise storeroom personnel for the purposes of assigning work, monitoring performance, and providing training.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Experience applying procurement laws, rules, regulations, and/or guidelines as it relates to inventory management.
Experience supervising subordinate staff to include delegating tasks, training, and evaluating work.
Experience with an inventory management software program to include creating warehouse locations, stocking inventory, pulling inventory, and adjusting stock for damage and/or loss.
Experience with inventory management to include sourcing of materials and supplies, vendor management, and implementation of cost-saving strategies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by the City of Birmingham. These qualifications may be considered by the hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
Experience with petroleum product storage and transport.
Experience with United States Postal Service (USPS) rules and regulations.
Bachelor's degree or higher in business, accounting, or a related field.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Prepares, monitors, and administers departmental or organizational budget by reviewing spending trends, expenditure reports, analyzing financial data and ensuring expenditures are within annual budgetary limits.
Develops and implements educational training programs for employees and personnel to provide new information about inventory control management processes.
Directs and monitors the inventory management program to ensure appropriate availability of inventories to supply and maintain the operations of all facilities.
Manages the department/work unit to include implementing policies and procedures, preparing reports, and investigating and resolving grievances between departments to ensure effective work productivity.
Prepares, issues, evaluates, and recommends awards for goods and services by reviewing bid invitations and specifications, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring compliance with laws, policies and procedures.
Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job is primarily sedentary involving sitting for long periods of time, but may involve occasional walking or standing for brief periods. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted almost exclusively indoors in an office or storeroom/warehouse setting. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc.EEO STATEMENT:
