Work is performed throughout the library under the general supervision of the Deputy Director with some latitude for independent judgment within established guidelines. Responsibilities include cleaning all areas in the library, restocking materials for use, assisting the Building Maintenance Technician with maintenance issues, driving city vehicles for work projects, and other duties as required.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Starting salary: LPT 2/5 at $17.56 hourly. Position requires 20 hours per week working primarilyweekends, with other dates as needed. Employee may be required to adapt to future schedule
changes depending upon library needs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of high school or GED. Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and compounds and their proper uses.
Skill in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of buildings.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, giving close attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently to complete daily tasks and establish effective working relationships with other library staff members.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
This job requires exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
Work is performed in a normal office environment with exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt, and dust.
While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, vomit and other bodily fluids, and cleaning chemicals.
Must possess a valid Alabama driver’s license.
Applicant must pass a drug test and a background check.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Follow the janitorial cleaning schedule developed for the entire library and its grounds.
Empty trash and recycling throughout the building’s interior and exterior, placing them in their proper receptacles.
Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors and stairways. Buff floors as needed.
Dust shelves, books, baseboards, work areas, window ledges, and light fixtures.
Clean tables, computers and other electronic equipment, furniture, door handles, windows, doors, and kitchen appliances.
Clean and disinfect restrooms. This includes sinks, toilets, floors, mirrors, and walls.
Stock restrooms and other areas with paper towels, soap, tissues, etc.
Clean up spills, overflows, human waste, and other liquids as needed.
Inventory and purchase cleaning supplies and equipment.
Collaborate with Building Maintenance Technician and Deputy Director to establish budgetary needs for janitorial services.
Assist Building Maintenance Technician with general maintenance as needed and update him regarding equipment and furniture that needs repair.
Set up meeting rooms for library and rental use, move furniture for cleaning, and rearrange areas as needed.
