Jefferson County Roads and Transportation Department is seeking well qualified, motivated Traffic Analysts to oversee and conduct traffic studies. Employees in this job collect and analyze data gathered during traffic studies in order to analyze traffic patterns, improve roadway traffic flow and to provide recommendations regarding other traffic related decisions. Traffic analysts are also responsible for inspecting traffic control devices in the field to ensure proper functioning and compliance with appropriate regulations. Employees within this job class are responsible for creating traffic drawings and/or maps of intersections and roadways and maintaining records and databases with data from traffic studies. Traffic Analysts work under the general supervision of senior traffic engineering staff and their work is typically reviewed for compliance with professional standards.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Driver's License.
Experience referencing and applying the MUTCD (Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices) while following applicable local, state, and federal guidelines.
Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings and descriptions such as maps, plans, specification sheets, field reviews, etc., in order to determine information such as location, scale, and dimensions.
Experience participating in and assisting with conducting traffic studies in order to collect traffic data.
Experience communicating information about work projects to engineers, contractors, and other professionals verbally and through written reports.
Experience using spreadsheets, databases, and data processing computer software in order to maintain documentation and create written reports and/or maps.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience reviewing work outcomes of coworkers or crew.
Experience drawing technical drawings and descriptions such as maps, plans, specification sheets, field reviews, etc.
Experience using virtual drawing software such as GIS software, virtual map creation, and Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
Experience working on a surveying crew.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Analyzes traffic study data using a variety of computer software in order to summarize results of traffic studies and provide recommendations for potential interventions to traffic and roadway safety issues.
Communicates with coworkers, supervisors, governmental agencies or departments, private contractors, and members of the public using verbal, written, and electronic communication in order to identify and solve problems related to the flow of traffic.
Creates and maintains records, databases, and files in order to ensure that traffic study data and other departmental records are accurate and able to be systematically accessed and retrieved.
Creates traffic drawings and/or maps of intersections and roadways using computer software or drafting utensils in order to accurately depict the layout of traffic control devices, streetlights, intersections, and roadways.
Directs and participates in traffic studies by overseeing data collection and ensuring the accuracy and validity of data in order to analyze traffic patterns and improve roadway safety and traffic flow.
Inspects traffic control devices and/or construction zones in the field (e.g., traffic signals, traffic signs, street lights, and markings) in order to ensure their operation, visibility, and compliance with traffic engineering plans and MUTCD regulations.
Acts as a lead worker of peer or support staff by assigning and reviewing work tasks, facilitating training, and providing feedback using policies, procedures, tools, and directives from management in order to ensure tasks are completed in accordance with established requirements.
Plans various types of traffic studies in accordance with MUTCD guidelines in order to investigate issues with existing traffic flow and traffic control infrastructure, vehicle and pedestrian traffic patterns, and sight obstructions on roadways and intersections.
Provides safety information, route maps, and safety resources to community schools in order to ensure pedestrian safety in school zones.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job involves physical exertion required for sustained periods of light physical activity such as walking or standing, but may at times require moderate physical exertion for occasional prolonged periods of bending, stooping, crawling or climbing. May involve occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted both indoors in office setting as well as during regular field visits to external worksites in and around public roadways. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc., as well as various hand tools and power tools. Workers may be exposed to weather conditions, such as extreme hot or cold temperatures, or other potentially hazardous conditions such as working near roadway traffic.EEO STATEMENT:
