Jefferson County is seeking qualified Sign Technicians to produce a variety of signage, decals, and graphics for traffic, public, and building displays. In this role, technicians use graphic design tools and printing equipment, manually layout graphics, lettering, and numbers, and plan and execute assignments independently while coordinating with team members and resolving conflicts according to established guidelines.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Driver's license.
Experience using graphic design software (e.g., FlexiSign, Corel Draw, Serif Draw, Gerber Omega, Adobe Illustrator, etc.).
Experience weeding and applying vinyl to sign blanks, doors, glass, banners, automobiles, etc.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Jefferson County. These qualifications may be considered by the hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
Course work in graphic design or design principles.
Experience producing signs from a sketch or written description.
Experience working directly with traffic signs and markings (e.g., building or installing traffic signs, road surface markings, traffic signals, etc.).
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Constructs signs using appropriate materials (e.g., vinyl, metal) and tools (e.g., plotters, X-acto knives, vinyl press), following work orders, site specifications, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Reviews work orders, GIS maps, and applicable standards (e.g., MUTCD) to design sign layouts and determine the appropriate materials for construction.
Installs signs at designated locations, such as roadsides, municipal buildings, vehicles, or office doors, ensuring proper placement and adherence to guidelines.
Maintains a clean, organized workspace and tracks job progress and performance metrics to support operational efficiency and reporting.
Assumes supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Traffic Maintenance Supervisor, providing guidance and oversight to the Traffic Sign and Markings crew.
Operates and maintains specialized equipment such as post drivers, bucket trucks, and lift equipment in accordance with safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
Maintains accurate records of completed work orders, sign specifications, installation dates, and maintenance activities for compliance and reporting purposes
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job involves physical exertion required for sustained periods of light physical activity such as walking or standing. Job involves occasional moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, and climbing. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed both within employer-owned facilities such as workshop and in field locations such as external places of business. Work involves use of various computer and printing equipment such large form vinyl printers and plotters, hand tools such as paint brushes and razor knives, and air brushes.
