Jefferson County is seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Control Technician to ensure the safe and efficient flow of traffic across the County. This position is responsible for the installation, programming, and maintenance of traffic control systems, including signals, streetlights, surveillance cameras, signage, and emergency sirens. The role involves performing complex electronic tasks such as programming microchips and configuring signal timing, as well as troubleshooting and resolving system issues. The Senior Technician prepares traffic reports and recommends improvements to signal operations and intersection configurations. They also manage incoming work orders, assign tasks, and provide training and supervision to technical staff.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Class B CDL.
Must obtain a level III International Municipality Signal Association (IMSA) Certification within 12 months of employment.
Work experience applying and adhering to MUTCD in the maintenance and installation of traffic signals.
Work experience reading and interpreting electrical or electronic schematics and blueprints.
Work experience applying and adhering to the National Electrical Code (NEC).
Work experience in electrical and electronic troubleshooting pertaining to traffic control devices.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Jefferson County. These qualifications may be considered by Jefferson County when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
Licensed by the State of Alabama as a Journey Electrician.
Associates degree in Electronics.
Work experience with fiber optics as it pertains to traffic control devices.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Performs electrical work (e.g., running wires, cutting loops, etc.) associated with the installation, maintenance, and replacement of traffic signals, street lights, ballpark lights, and emergency sirens utilizing the National Electrical Code and related tools in order to power electrical components of projects.
Performs electronic work (e.g., programming microchips, programming traffic signal phases, etc.) associated with the installation, programming, and troubleshooting of electronic traffic control cabinets and emergency sirens utilizing electronic theories, principles, and related tools in order to power electronic components of projects.
Oversees and participates in the installation of traffic signals, intersections, street lights, cameras and street signs.
Prepares for daily activities and manages projects onsite by reviewing work orders, checking inventory, managing equipment, driving to worksites, coordinating work with various entities, and documenting various aspects of work to ensure that crews are able to complete their work safely and according to policies and procedures.
Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job involves moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, balancing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed both within employer-owned facilities such as workshops, warehouses, or stations, and in field locations such as external construction worksites. Work involves the use of various hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. Workers may be exposed to weather conditions, such as extreme hot or cold temperatures, or other potentially hazardous conditions such as near roadway traffic, etc.EEO STATEMENT:
